Hey there! I’m Maria Housey, and I have had a passion for design and real estate and I want to start flipping houses after graduation. I was hooked ever since I saw my first The Property Brothers on HGTV. Born in Guatemala, adopted when I was almost three, I’ve always felt connected to both my roots and the world around me. As I wrap up my degree from Shepherd University, I want to combine my passion with my Communication degree and this website is not only my Senior Capstone project, it is also going to bring your DIY ideas to life and help you transform your space (and just maybe, your life).
Growing up, I would run into hotel rooms and eagerly turn on the TV to watch shows like The Property Brothers or Love It or List It or Design on a Dime which I was deprived of at home since we didn’t have cable TV. I was surprised to learn that my elementary school friends didn’t get excited about HGTV!? I’d spend hours watching transformations and dreaming of my own future in the industry. That passion eventually led me to help my mom with home projects and with repairs and upgrades at our family’s rental properties. I started out with simple tasks like cleaning, raking, organizing, planting flowers and shrubs, adding landscape elements and was able to see that even these small efforts would really improve a property.
At 15, I got the chance to work with a handywoman who taught me more basics of home repairs. I was curious about how things worked, and she showed me the ropes and really taught me the wonders of paint. Sure, there were moments where I ended up with more paint on me than the walls, but I didn’t mind: I was hooked. Over the past six years, my passion has only grown, and I’m still learning more every day. Through these pages, I hope to ignite your own desires to stop looking at “ideas” for projects and start implementing solid plans to bring those desires to life.
Overall, I’m a nature lover, a people person, and someone who believes in making things look and feel right. Whether I’m designing a new space, getting my hands dirty, or speaking to a crowd, I’m all about creating something beautiful and functional. Real estate is more than a future for me, it’s a way of bringing people and their spaces into harmony. You will certainly find my tastes and approaches echoing through these pages but I also hope to also instill enough basic knowledge of DIY projects that you can use the technical underpinnings to find your style and start refreshing your space.
Let’s connect and make something amazing together!
